TCL 55S425 55 inch 4K Smart LED Roku TV
I read a ton of reviews on here talking about a multitude of issues. A review stated the sound had issues. I have had 0 issue with the sound. It’s great quality and gets very loud. A review stated the picture had issues when gaming. I have played quite a few different types of games and have had again no issue. There is no blur, distortion, or lines around images that i have encountered. Its not to say others dont have this issue, as they could of received a bad one, i just have definitely not had issue. It has great sound, picture, the roku integration is amazing, the controls are great, i absolutely adore the app on my phone. It is so convenient having a remote whenever i have my phone (so always). I am extremely happy with my purchase. Wonderful tv for the price, and in general.
I decided to replace a 9-year-old 720p toshiba 37′ tv with this unit. I’m not a big spender, and i want the most bang for my buck, and that lead me to this tv. I first saw the tcl brand at a walmart, and looked down on the brand name having never heard of it. But back home i did some research and found the name more popular than i expected. Various models (particularly their top ‘5’ series) were getting some decent reviews from trusted sites. And then there was the 2,500+ positive reviews here on amazon, which pushed me into purchasing it. My primary goals were to get something slightly larger than our 37′, that was 4k, and had 3 or more hdmi inputs. Having roku built-in meant that the amazon firetv we were using would also be removed to free up an hdmi jack. We are using an antenna for live tv which seems to pull in more channels more reliably than our previous tv. The roku interface tied into the tv features is very intuitive.
Tcl is a partially state-owned chinese subsidiary headquarted in shenzen china. Each purchase puts money directly into the chinese state treasury. Currently, china is committing brutal human rights violations in honk kong. So, understand that purchasing this product is indirectly funding what many would consider war crimes. At the price, this television is perfect for keeping lower class americans fat, dumb, and happy. With it’s integrated 120hz cmi it fills the 60hz standard feed with predicted motion interpolate frames to provide a seemless viewing experiences without any motion blur. I tested the framerates of cmi via game play through via steam link from my gaming computer and it was good. The 4k hdr screen has a very minor amount of light bleed along all edges or surrounding any stark black-white borders, but in all the colors and contrasts are fantastic with it’s automatically adjusted hdr, mostly benefitting from amazon prime content, and disney+ auto-detection. Not so much on hulu or netflix which hardcode the content input for hdr which can’t be adjusted. But if you’re buying a $300 tv from anazon, chances are you have prime video anyways so pat on the back. The audio is adjustable but not top quality. I compensated for this by adding a 40′ soundbar via optical audio cable. This more than compensated for the poor internal speakers. I highly recommend using a sound bar so that when you have solicitors at the door, you can put on a horror movie and convince them a murder is taking place inside.
I will admit it’s nice to buy a 4k tv for under $400. I had held off for years on getting 4k, because it didn’t seem worth it unless you’re sitting about 5 feet away. However, with this tv, you’re basically getting a 4k tv for the price of hd, so i pulled the trigger. The good:-the price-the built-in roku is nice. I actually like it better than fire tv as it actually has a spectrum app, which is nice. I had a 55′ vizio before this, and i swear, the vizio weighed at least 3 times as much-the picture is decent. I notice that the reds are more vibrant and the blacks deeper than my previous hdtvthe bad:-the glare. It’s almost like staring into a freakin’ mirror at times. I have lights that i didn’t even knew were on in my living room until i looked at this screen.
Was worried about the screen being broken from the reviews. Hard to tell what pic 2 is but pic 3 is the cardboard that protects the screen with a 30 lb weight on it. Another concern was a rewiew that stated screws won’t fit ‘this tv is not compatible with any vesa mount’ he doesn’t even know what ‘vesa mount’ means. Pic 4, the top 2 screws(black ones) came for free already in there. The silver one on the bottom right. Is from a ‘vesa wall mount’ i bought. I have wall mounted 1 million and 2 tvs. That is why i have 9 million and 4 extra screws in my junk drawer. They always come with the correct screws and spacers.
