As many other reviews have noted, do not use the installation software that comes in the box with your nighthawk a7000. This unit comes bundled with bloatware and initiates a legacy service at win10 startup, ‘runswusb’, that causes disconnections. How companies still get away with this in 2019 is beyond me. Download the latest standalone version of the driver software from netgear with an available internet connection. The standalone version doesn’t install the ‘netgear genie’ bloatware. The installation was simple and the performance is beyond what i expected from wireless. The adapter has good range and maintains a strong signal through many walls. The adapter itself is fairly large. I don’t think it’s too practical to use this plugged into a usb port of a laptop for example, unless it’s absolutely necessary. The dock is pretty nice in design and size but i feel it lacks sufficient heft. It should be a little heavier, although the magnet does hold firmly if you have a metal surface to attach it to. Heed the enclosed (and online) warning about placing this very strong magnet close to devices that might be affected by strong magnetic fields such as hard drives, analog watches, some cell phones, some storage media and even some credit cards. One big problem (not sure if others have experienced this) is that after the software was installed, it found an update was available. I selected to let the software go through its automated procedure. It downloaded the update and when i chose to let the software install, i received 2 error messages.

This thing is blazing fast ,it’s the fastest adapter i have used, and i have quite a few bucks. It’s working great after i disabled swusb in the services. If you see this service running after you install the drivers go to services and disable it. After that my connection stays strong and doesn’t drop. Swusb trys to change between 2. 0 usb which causes problems.

I bought this adapter to plug into my desktop from 2009 (that doesn’t have wi-fi capability by itself). The adapter works well with the netgear nighthawk ac1900 modem router combo that i bought.
