Buying a digital antenna is very complicated. It’s very location dependent so an antenna that works for one person may not work for another. To optimize the channels you get i would recommend finding a website that shows where your nearest broadcast towers are (antennaweb. If all the towers are in one direction, you may do better with a strong directional antenna. These flat antennas are great, but i read that they tend to have problems picking up low power vhf. Where i live that includes nbc. So for us, in a normal location we would get fox, cbs, and cw. Sitting it on boxes near a window (we just moved) we also get cw and abc. Nothing we do gives any signal from nbc.

Have been an ota fanboy for several years now, while using a well-reviewed (but much cheaper) indoor amazon antenna for that same period. I’m often amused by the frequency of comments that either complain or compliment an antenna’s performance without mentioning “how” it’s being used. Are you 60 miles from your transmitters or 6?. Are you trying to pull in reception to an apartment located on your building’s 22nd floor in a big city, or to a double wide trailer on a half-acre plot in jackass flats, nevada?.Our house-based tv is in albuquerque, nm, roughly 12 miles from our transmitting towers, that are located atop the sandia mountains (10,600’) on the east side of town. My overall ota tv reception with our old antenna has always been excellent, except that the last few months our cbs signal goes bananas (heavy pixilation) at different times of the day. When you’re running ota, the loss of a major broadcast network hurts, especially when your wife’s favorite cbs show goes bonkers, prompting her to loudly remind you that giving up cable was a mistake. (like hell it was) i relocated the old antenna in several new living room spots (without improvement), but took the trouble to scribble down signal strength numbers for each of our channels. Connecting up the new winegard and positioning the antenna in the same spot, i rechecked the numbers. The winegard definitely provides some improvement to my overall signal strength, including my pixelated cbs channel.

This antenna picks up about 50% more stations (44 broadcast stations) than our previous (unpowered) indoor antenna. There is also less dropout, though this is somewhat dependent on the positioning of the antenna. We do live in a metropolitan area, so there are transmitters in the vicinity. I was a bit hesitant about purchasing this antenna as i had previously purchased a flat indoor antenna before from another brand and it was garbage, barely picked up any channel and did not work. I decided to order this after extensive research and reading reviews on the item. I live about 30 miles away from all the towers and with previous indoor antennas, i was able to easily pick up uhf channels no problem but i was never able to get any vhf channels even though those towers were the same distance away. To add on to my predicament, the room where i have my television set up has one window that faces south while all the satellite towers were to the northeast so i feared the only way i would ever be able to receive vhf channels is to install an outside antenna on my roof. I am no handyman and didn’t want to make a big project out of this so i took a chance on this item and i am so glad i did. At first i tried placing the antenna as high on the wall as i could on the northeast corner of my room since everything i read online kept reiterating that the antenna should be facing the direction of the towers, it was only able to pick up 65-70 channels, none of which were vhf so at this point i was becoming less and less optimistic that this antenna was any different than the ones before but then i decided to place the antenna high on that south window despite knowing it was the complete opposite direction to the towers and unbelieveably the antenna was able to pick up 138 channels, the two vhf channels i wanted (abc and fox) were both working with crystal clear reception. Even with the 15 ft cable, i still had to purchase an extender but easy fix and with the extender cable, reception was not compromised at all. Highly highlyrecommend this winegard antenna, its affordable and really does what it advertises to do. I almost purchased an expensive antenna thinking it could do a better job but the little antenna proved me wrong.Honestly the best purchase i’ve made this year thus far.

I live in cedar park, tx (nw of austin) in an apartment. I am very happy with this antenna. In this area, fox broadcasts on the lowest channel of high-vhf (channel 7). Fox was the hardest for me to get reliably. I had tried a phillips with vhf/uhf combined with a rocketfish uhf and got in fox after much adjustment to the rabbit ears, but lots of weak stations and no tolerance for interference. The winegard got it in with just moving it around the wall to a good spot. Also, the strength of all the channels improved with the winegard from 1 or 2 bars to 2 or 3 bars.
