Roku Streambar 4k/Hd/Hdr Streaming Media Player & Premium Audio
Follow up to my initial review:wrote the initial review too fast. We immediately noticed that the sound was out of sync with the video. Bigger problem–the sound would completely drop as we were streaming (btw–when the sound drops so does the closed captioning, so couldn’t use that as a work around)i am not a techie. Hit the owner’s manual–waste of time. Youtube yielded some options and in trying i found that indeed i do have hdmi-arc (on side of tv). I had hoped the optical cord was the issue. I tried various setting adjustments. Unplugging the unit for 10 seconds did correct the sound drops for a day or two–and then repeat. But the out-of-sync persists. This thing has wasted too many of my hours. Disappointed with roku on about 7 levels.
I purchased because of it’s compact design and the audio mix coming from my lg tv made watching movies impossible. The stream bar solved my audio problem. I can now watch movies without turning the volume up for dialogue and down for action sequences. I also like the upgradeability of this device with wireless speakers and a subwoofer which i’m sure i’ll take advantage of overtime. I have not had an opportunity to play with the device so i can’t rate other features.
Purchased the roku streaming sound bar to replace a roku streaming stick plus because the tv needed to have sound projected. I moved the roku streaming stick to another tv. The streaming bar has been great. Projects the sound, it is small in size, fits nicely in front of the tv, and the sound quality is great.
I have a year old sony bravia tv and while the sound isn’t bad, i wanted something better. I needed a smaller sound bar for my setup so i checked out the streambar. I read the reviews so i knew going in that it wasn’t going to be quite the experience that a bigger sound bar would give me but i thought i’d give it a chance. Setup couldn’t have been easier. Plug it in and run the hdmi cable to the arc input on the tv and that was it. The reviews here talk about the lack of bass, so i was surprised how well it sounded and how much more bass it gives my regular tv shows, even talk shows. I am not having any of the problems that other people have talked about here. Picture and sound are in sync and the roku app works great with no lag at all using the remote. Would a bigger more expensive sound bar be better?. Would a porsche be better than a ford or chevy?. Sure, but this is a great little unobtrusive sound bar that includes roku and 4k hdr. For the price and what you get you can’t go wrong with the streambar.
I did the research and i knew prior purchase that my cheep four years old epson 1060 home theater projector does not have an hdmi/arc connector and my spectrum modem does have 2g but not displayed. I googled and learned the trick how to full the roku to see the 2g connection by setting up my iphone’s hotspot with the same name and password as my modem since hotspot is 2g. Once connected with the credentials, hotspot is no longer needed and roku finds the hidden 2g my modem puts out. I also ordered an hdmi/arc converter, then later realized that i don’t need it because it is to allow sound from the tv to the streambar. Well, my projector has no sound and i’m not connecting peripherals like game console to it so actually i don’t need sound going from the projector to the streambar. After unpacking and plugging it in plus connecting it to the projector with a regular hdmi cable, setup was basically non existent. Everything just happened on the first click by itself. Projector found wifi in no time followed by roku detecting correctly that my epson has no hdmi/arc output. I couldn’t find how to make roku ignore this issue first but pressing the ok button repeatedly took me out of this setting and tadaaaa.
