GE Outdoor Tv Antenna

This antenna is moderately priced and easy to assemble. However, i encountered problems with reception and found the frequency response of the two antennas i purchased varied considerably. The two diagrams submitted show return loss of the two antenna’s. If you compare them you can easily see the response is quite different. , and i made sure they were assembled exactly the same. Antenna gain in both units is around 2 db at 400 mhz and 6 db at 700 mhz; however the response between the low and high frequency limits varies considerably. The maximum gain of the first antenna is at 571 mhz and is 15 – 16 db. The maximum of the 2nd antenna is at 594 mhz with 20 db of gain. I can still use them by matching the antenna response to the channels i need to receive; however most people do not have access to a spectrum analyzer, tracking generator, and return loss bridge to make these measurements. I would not recommend them except for reception at distances less of than 35 miles.

This replaced one of the flexible flat-panel antennas (supposedly good for 40 miles) in the attic. Some of the stations were pixellated, so i thought i needed a roof mount antenna. I tried this in the attic, same mounting point as the old one, and got an 18% signal strength (not signal quality, quality went up about 40%) improvement on the pixellated channel. I even picked up 2 channels that were previously unavailable (and in the antenna’s sidelobes), but one is very pixellated and nearly unwatchable. Assembly was tedious, but the instructions were easy. It appeared that english was the first language of whomever wrote them. If you ran over it with a truck or lawnmower, it wouldn’t make it, but should be able to survive most outdoor weather short of tornadoes and hurricanes. The mounting post seems sturdy enough. Though i planned to mount it outside, the signal from the attic was good enough to scrap that plan and leave it as-is.

I took a chance on this attic antenna. I live in a condo, and don’t have access to mounting outside or the attic. I decided to mount it to my shelves in my porch. The porch is enclosed, but faces windows. Almost all the towers are 33-40 miles away due east of me. ( found this info on the internet, several sites, just google ) anyway, i have an indoor hd antenna, that worked okay, basically in the same spot, but once i put this antenna together ( takes about 30 minutes ) and mounted it. . I did a search for signals on my tv ( you must do this ) i am getting 50 + stations. I must say this antenna is excellent, now mileage may vary in your part of the country or where you live, but this was my only option to cut the cord. It’s not super large, so it’s not a eyesore ( at least to me ) and saves me about 1000.

I am preparing to ‘cut the cord’ and ditch cable/satellite. In addition to various streaming services, i also wanted to pull in over-the-air hd digital channels. For reference, i live in the center of a decent sized (and sprawling) urban area. The transmission antennas for the networks i watch are all around 8-10 miles from me, generally clumped in one area (so i only need to aim one direction). I tested this antenna in my house before mounting it in the attic. I was able to pull in signals reliably, though only at medium strength. Reception was still good though, with no pixelation. I then mounted the antenna in the attic and hooked it to an hdhomerun streaming box. My signal tester showed i was receiving between 86-100% signal strength on all the networks it pulled. Seems to be working like a champ.

I live in a suburb quite far from the city and many of the broadcast station antennas. I purchased the ge 29884 antenna a couple of weeks ago from amazon. Along with the antenna, i purchased a pct 4 port cable tv/hdtv/internet amplifier (model pct-ma2-4p) just in case i need it. I have been trying to ‘cut the cable’ and stop paying expensive cable tv fees for even local basic television stations. In addition to the fees, my cable company switched to a system requiring cable tv boxes that you rent from them for $6/month per box. I have tried other powered indoor antennas and have had miserable experiences with them. Few channels could be scanned and the picture quality was dismal, or heavily pixelated, especially in the daytime hours. The few stations that i could pick up were often unwatchable. I decided to try the ge 29884 antenna based on the reviews i read on amazon.
