This is the gt1080 with some firmware updates. I had the gt1080 (legacy model) for approximately 2 1/2 years, so i can easily do some comparisons between the darbee model and the legacy model. From what i have seen, there is some improvements with the darbee model, albeit i think they are minor. First, the noise associated with the darbee model appears to be a few decibels lower than the 1080, but it is still noticeably noisy. Crank up the volume on the tv and the noise is not as noticeable. Second, optoma increased the lumens from 2800 to 3000. Do the math and it is a 7% increase, which if i recall when i bought the legacy model 2 1/2 years ago the legacy’s model picture was as bright as the darbee model, so i don’t think there is much brightness improvement. Third, the menu screen has dramatically changed. The legacy model’s menu was difficult to navigate because i couldn’t readily see what item was highlighted. The darbee model corrected this deficiency, which in my opinion, is a ‘so what’ because it does not impact the picture.

Picture quality is excellent. Main use is for my golf simulator and colors tint sharpness are all excellent. The optoma website is a bit deceiving. They highlight 4k, but make sure to read the fine details. It is not a 4k output projector. It is a 1080p output with a 4k input. The reason behind this is that 4k carries a hdr signal. So if you want a 1080p hdr projector, this is the one for you. Setup was easy and image shift is versatile. It has horizontal and vertical shifts.
Well, the projector _was_ great until, 93 days after delivery the lamp failed. We see a blinking red power light and a solid red lamp light–which seems to indicate an early lamp failure. I’m pissed at this point because we’re literally just a few days outside of the 90 day lamp warranty. So now i’ve got to spend a couple hundred bucks getting this thing fixed. Before the early lamp failure the image was bright, vivid, and clear. But there’s no excuse for early lamp failure like this, especially since this is a known optoma issue. If my experience is typical for optoma customers then i cannot recommend purchasing this projector. A relatively affordable price for an excellent projector is undercut if the lamps fail just outside of warranty, necessitating a couple hundred dollar repair.
Been using this projector for my outdoor movie night every weekend now for a couple months. I have a 120” screen set up on my deck area that is covered with a roof. I bought 2 different projectors so i could compare and this one was about $200 more. The other one would have been placed way out in my garden to fill 120” screen. This one with the short throw can be set on my patio table a few feet from the screen which means i can still show movies if it rains. Yea, no cancellation due to weather. Great picture i can see even with a fair amount of sun out but when dark, this has a fab clear pic. Female in my 60s but fairly tech savvy).
