I have multiple devices plugged into my roku tv using hdmi cables and the tv has an hdmi connection to a soundbar. Everything works fine but private listening has been an issue. The tv is in a cabinet so the headphone jack is inaccessible. Also, using the tv headphone jack disables the optical and hdmi outputs so i would have to plug/unplug my headphones (or wireless transmitter). Each of my source devices supports private listening but, as with the tv, the output ports are not easily accessed. Another possibility i considered is an elaborate setup using extra cables, adapters, and an hdmi audio extractor — i rejected this because it would have been messy and expensive. The voice remote pro solves the problem by providing a headphone jack that, when used, diverts the tv audio output to the plugged-in headphones. I can now listen to anything on the tv, regardless of the source — this is a cheap, effective solution to my private listening issue. I’ve only encountered two issues so far. First, there is a slight audio lag (lip-synch error) but it is so slight that it does not interfere with the viewing experience.
Earlier: i bought this a week or so ago. When i got it i plugged it in and charged it. It controls both the tv and the roku well. What it does not do is recognize the earphone. I have not once been able to get it to work with the roku earphones i already have. Now: kudos to amazon customer service for saving the sale. They sent a replacement remote with blinding speed. Wownow i review a working remote.The original remote would not work with any headset/earphone, not even roku’s own earphones.
Pros: new mute button, no more burning thru aa batteries, personalizable buttons 1 and 2, lighter weight, the first review i saw was a guy who said the remote always listens but thats not true they have an off switch i circled it in my picture and also a note roku said on their devicecons: so far right out of the box i already noticed a problem the charger port is not usb c type its still micro usb which would have been fine in 2014 but in 2021 when all new android phones are ubc c that is unexcusable, also minor nitpick they changed the preset buttons on the bottom of the remote, i have sling, paramount + (aka cbs all access) both of which 2 of 3 have been replaced one by vudu which im pretty sure is less popular than paramount plus wish they would have left them all blank so you can pre-program them.
I got the pro model for my tcl roku tv and i love it. I use prime video alot and having the programmable buttons is nice because 1 opens prime video and 2 opens my playstation. The preprogrammed buttons that came on mine were netflix, hulu, disney+, and sling. I use them all but sling, but like i said with the two programmable buttons i have instant access to the other things i usethe remote has a textured surface which i really like, because my older remote was smooth and would slip out of my hands easily. Definitely worth the $30 i spent on it.
