SAMSUNG 65-Inch Class Frame Series – 4k Quantum Hdr Smart Tv

To begin, the setup was different from any other tv i have set up before. Its more than just plug an play. I hadn’t set up a tv for over 5yrs, so it may just be me. The remote is definitely more complicated to operate, not to mention fewer immediate commands. Also, my old set had 3 hdmi slots, this tv, only has 2. No port for wired internet connection, (i gotta get used to wifi, i have trust issues). The picture quality is fantastic. Which is why i brought the damn thing.

This is a great-looking tv, but unfortunately the art mode was giving me a lot of problems at first. To begin with, the ‘smartthings’ app that you need to use to set up art mode is an absolute piece of junk. After a lot of frustration with it, i was finally able to get the frame tv to display artwork. However, when i would turn it on it wouldn’t display the art more than a minute or two before shutting off. I turned it back on, it shut off, over and over. I was pacing back and forth in front of the tv, so it shouldn’t have been because of the motion sensor. After going through this 8 or 10 times, it would finally start working the way it should and would stay on. After a lot of research, i found that the night mode function was not working correctly, and was causing the problem. After turning night mode off, it’s working okay now. I guess i can live without night mode.

I pre-ordered this tv and before it arrived, the first reviews started coming in and most of them mentioned the horrible mount design on this version. Once i got the tv, i opened the mount box and carefully read through the ‘instructions’ (more like hieroglyphics, really — hardly any text to be found) and thought it seemed straightforward enough. It wasn’t until i almost got ready to hang the tv that i realized how truly dumb the mount design is. There’s a reason basically every tv mount is a single bracket, and that’s so it’s wide enough to span two studs and need just 4 screws. Well, samsung decided to split the bracket into two pieces. At first you might think that this makes it flexible since you can move each piece independently. The most asinine part of the design is that the two brackets are not flexible in their positioning, they in fact have to be precisely spaced according to the spacing of the hooks that attach to the tv, which varies based on model size.

I had a 17 year old 42′ panasonic flat screen television that i had been threatening to replace for years, so when this set went on sale on prime day, i jumped on it. I was not aware of the ‘frame tv’ concept, even though it had been out for years, but i admit that it was the biggest selling point for buying this set. Who wouldn’t want a tv that turned into wall art when it was turned off?my old tv was hung above the fireplace, so i had a limited amount of space available for the new set. I decided on the 50 inch, and now, in hindsight, i probably could have gone a little bigger, but i didn’t want the new tv to overwhelm the room. We removed the old set (which weighed a ton, and took two people) and took down the old bracket so we had a clean wall to work with. All of the old wires to the panasonic were hidden inside the wall, and i was hoping we could use the same pathway for the new tv. The cord going from the one box (which powers the tv) to the set has rather large connectors on each end which would not fit inside the conduit inside the wall. So, our wires would have to be run in a wire mold (my only dislike). The hanging bracket for the tv is split, which is kind of a pain, but there is a template you can use and if you are lucky, you can hit a stud on each side.

Samsung frame does exactly as it’s intended. I read the reviews about how difficult it was to mount so i had someone from task rabbit mount it for me- he had no issues and figured it out on his own. I have been busy finding high res art from the met museum, google arts and culture etc all for free. Downloaded files to a usb and saved to the tv. The frame tv will customize a matte to wrap around each painting regardless of the dimensions and the matte colors can be changed. Artwork can be set to shuffle , and rotates once every three minutes (or five , ten, fifteen etc) minutes. There is a box that must be connected to the tv and i have hidden that in the small credenza in my living room (beneath my patron lol) so it’s not an eyesore by any means. It’s obviously expensive for a tv (65” can be purchased for $500 nowadays) but i hate having a huge black rectangle on my wall. Worth the premium if you want a nice look and feel to the room.
