Roku Ultra 2020 | Streaming Media Player HD/4K/HDR/Dolby Vision
I’ve had multiple roku devices over the years and have been happy with the units. But, luckily i haven’t had to deal with roku customer service before. One of the reasons i bought the ultra model was for the private listening function using the remote and included headphones. However, the feature is broken on my remote. The sound has a horrible ‘warble’ and is unusable. I tried different headphones and even re-pairing the remote. After 5 back and forth emails with roku support i was told: ‘there might be some hardware issues on remote of your new roku ultra, since the mobile app private listening worked perfectly. Please try replacing the remote directly from the retailer since it is a brand new device. ‘pretty sure amazon isn’t going to send me a replacement remote. Roku should have taken responsibility for the replacement and handled it directly.
I ordered my ultra 2020 directly from roku, as amazon was back ordered. It arrived on oct 16th, one day after the release date. I am using it to replace my ultra 2018 model. I also have a second 4k tv with a roku streaming stick+ as well as a sharp roku tv. I recently tried and returned the fire tv cube. So besides reviewing the 2020 ultra, i will be making comparisons. The 2020 ultra is advertised as being 30 percent faster than previous versions. If it is, i can barely notice. Not worth an upgrade if speed is your only motivation and you already have a 2018 or 2019 ultra. What it does bring to the party is support for dolby atmos and dolby vision.
I replaced my roku 2019 to be able to do atmos/dolby vision. What i didn’t know is that this unit upscaled and add dolby vision and atmos to any app or signal -old or new movie. Even the menu has dolby vision. A big improvement in sound and picture quality. If your system support dolby vision/atmos, this is a must buy. Finally, we are able to see netflix at full banthwith.
When i got my roku 4, everything was good. However, it just seemed to deteriorate over time. 50% of the time when i would access it, it would need a restart because of the infamous purple screen, (you hear the audio, but your screen is a dense blanket of purple. However, once you finally get it going, it’s still good. I upgraded to the roku ultra 2020 yesterday and the hook up was very quick and so far it’s working perfectly with no signs of screen purpility. Plus it’s working notably faster than my previous model. It comes with the streaming player, an hdmi, the power source, the remote, batteries and a set of earplugs (wired). The only thing you have to do is sign up for a roku account (for free), and then set up your channels. It comes with channels already set up, a lot i took off.

Do I have to pay an activation fee?
No. Roku players do not require an activation fee, registration fee, equipment rental fee, or charge for support of any kind.
Do I need a smart TV to use it?
No. Roku Ultra can be connected to any TV with an HDMI connection. Just plug it into power and connect it to your TV with the included Premium High Speed HDMI Cable.
Can I get local channels?

Can I use this with my existing Roku Streaming Stick+ and remote?
Yes, you can set up your Roku Ultra and Roku Streaming Stick+ on separate devices in your home. However, you cannot use multiple streaming players on one TV.
