SAMSUNG 65-Inch Class Qled Q90t Series – 4k Uhd Direct Full Array 16x Quantum Hdr 16x Smart Tv

My first unit went bad after a week. Some menu overlays still worked, but it wouldn’t show a picture from the source at all. Fully black or fully white screen. Samsung couldn’t fix it, so i had to go through a replacement. Not completely unexpected for a model that was released less than a month ago, so if you’re impatient with new tech, maybe wait. Otherwise, i bought this because i didn’t want to spend the money for an oled tv, but wanted better tech than standard lcd. I have little to compare it to, though.

For starters, i will say i calibrated the tv using the recommendations from rtings. I also viewed a series of test image patterns on bluray disc to finely-tune the image. After hearing more and more talk about how these quantum dot tvs are supposed to outperform oled tvs, i decided to buy one to replace my 2016 lg oled b6 panel. Unfortunately, i can’t say i am impressed. I noticed a lot of blooming around bright objects in darkly-lit scenes when the local dimming kicks in. Additionally, the panel motion is not great (not talking about using the motion smoother features). I was very impressed with the way brightly-lit scenes appeared (the cat returns, studio ghibli, for instance) but anything dark resulted in a lot of gray as the panel attempted to display the highlights and dark areas at the same time. I also ran into issues trying to watch hdr content through my xbox one x. The tv would not pickup the hdr signal (thanks samsung for not having an hdr promt appear on-screen when hdr content is detected like every other manufacturer i’ve seen).

Just received this tv and the picture is amazing. I’m watching netflix, hulu, amazon prime through my apple 4k tv as opposed to using the apps within the television. Everything up converts to 4k and is crystal clear.

3 things keep this from being a 5 star review. 1) the most glaring issue (pun definitely intended) is the screen is shiny so you get huge glare streaks off of any light source hitting it that look like a giant smear across the screen. It also is a magnet for fingerprints. Why doesnt this screen have a matte finish?.For $4000 after tax and shipping this thing should be top of the line and have all the bells and whistles but it doesnt even have a basic feature that a $125 computer monitor would have. 2) things like local dimming cannot be disabled. I have my pc hooked up to this tv via hdmi and after i use a webpage that doesnt have darkmode (i. Amazon) and then close out to desktop (which for me is just a black solid color) what was once a very bright screen is very dim.

This replaced an eight year old 92′ dlp tv which was big but picture quality was adequate at best. A family member has the 65′ lg c9 but i needed a bigger tv at a more affordable price. Last years samsung 80r just wasn’t good enough so i waited for the 90t. I am very satisfied with this model. I have a very bright room and sit about 18 feet away. With the sun directly on this set i have no problems and movies with no lights on look just as spectacular. The menu and user interface is a little buggy and you cant get rid of some apps and ads that samsung wants us to see but i can probably get used to it and the lg is just about the same. Alexa works well and the tv sound is ok but i will continue to use my surround system. The remote is small and responds quickly and even will control my tivo to a point. No screen glare or reflections ever.
